Janet, an eleven year old girl had a serious case of overbite. The problem was so obvious her mom was worried it would get worse as she gets older. They were serious on finding a solution to the problem.

A common misconception is that overbite happens when the upper jaw is longer but actually it is caused when the lower jaw is short. But this is a problem that can be fixed by modern orthodontic devices. Before, the only solution available was to use a headgear that will pull the upper teeth back to meet the lower teeth. But Janet’s overbite was fixed in nine months without having to use braces or a headgear.

They were able to do this with a new device created in Europe called Bionator. What makes it different from braces is that you can remove the wires and plastic when you eat, brush or floss your teeth. But the patient needs to use it more than twenty hours a day for it to be effective.

Bringing your child for orthodontic check up is a wise decision. Early detection of problems gives your orthodontist a chance to treat your child early before the problem gets worse or while it’s still easier to fix the problem. In the case of Janet, fixing her overbite has allowed her to become more confident as her perception of herself improved.

If you need braces, you have several to choose from: ceramic braces, invisible braces, clear braces or invisible aligners or Invisalign.

For young teens, looking good is very important. This spells the kind of social life they will have. Those who have deformities or abnormalities that affect their appearance are mercilessly teased. So it’s very important to correct problems like overbite. It will not only ensure their dental health, but wellbeing as well.
